This conference workshop presentation teaches viewers how new technologies can capture, process, and make information available and actionable. The Chicago, Illinois, Police Department pushes daily action plans to officers in real time. The Austin, Texas, Police Department is rolling new technologies into their real-time crime center in addition to building relationships with communities and businesses. The New York Police Department has integrated dozens of databases into an application every officer can access on their smartphone, helping response and increasing information collection to inform strategy.

Jonathan Lewin
Senior Public Safety Advisor

Jonathan Lewin is a Senior Public Policy Advisor at the First Responder Network Authority, a federal agency. He served briefly as CIO for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC after retiring as Chief of the Bureau of Technical Services for the Chicago Police Department (CPD), where he was a sworn member for 28 years. Born and raised in Chicago, Lewin served as a board member and past-Chair of the IACP Law Enforcement Information Technology Section and was the Major Cities Chiefs of Police representative on DHS SAFECOM and FirstNet's Public Safety Advisory Council. Currently, Lewin serves on the IACP CJIS Committee and its Technology Guide working group. He was named one of Government Technology’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and was awarded Technology Champion of the Year by NOBLE (the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives). He earned a BS in Administration of Justice at Southern Illinois University, an MA in Public Policy at Northwestern University, and an MA in Security Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Brent Dupre

Brent Dupre is the Director of Law Enforcement for Attorney General?s Office for the State of Texas. Serving in Law Enforcement for over 23 years, he retired as Assistant Chief of the Headquarters Bureau for the Austin Police Department in March 2021. He was commissioned in 1998 and has served in numerous assignments including: Patrol Officer, Child Abuse Detective, Patrol sergeant, Highway Enforcement, and Recruiting. His current responsibilities include the Training Academy and Recruiting, Professional Standards, the Austin Regional Intelligence Center, Tactical Intelligence Unit, Real Time Crime Center, and Police Technology Unit. He is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Master Peace Officer. Director Dupre graduated with a Bachelor?s degree from Trinity University in 1997. Director Dupre and his wife Sande have two daughters, Isabella and Trinity. Director Dupre is an avid ice hockey player and enjoys traveling.

Anthony Tasso, Inspector

Deputy Chief Anthony Tasso is a 28 year veteran of the New York City Police Department, and is assigned as the Commanding Officer of the NYPD's Information Technology Bureau. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management from St. Joseph's College, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate from Columbia's Police Management Institute.

Leonard Nerbetski, MAS

Albuquerque, New Mexico, Police Department
Leonard Nerbetski, has worked for the Albuquerque Police Department since October, 2018, serving as the Commander of the APD Real Time Crime Center. In January 2018, he retired from the New Jersey State Police as the Executive Officer of the New Jersey Regional Operations Intelligence Center (ROIC), the State of New Jersey?s intelligence fusion center. During his tenure at the ROIC, he built and managed two real time crime centers for the State of New Jersey. He was previously assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation?s Joint Terrorism Task Force for over eight years where he collaborated with Intelligence Community Partners such as the Department of Homeland Security, National Security Agency, Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency. He worked collateral assignments with Joint Special Operations Command and was ssigned to FBI Headquarters where he served as an FBI Executive Fellow. He served as an instructor at the New Jersey State Police Academy in the Criminal Science Unit and has conducted numerous presentations to law enforcement, homeland security and private sector audiences throughout the county. He is a graduate of the Naval Post Graduate School, Fusion Center Leadership Program. Mr. Nerbetski earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and holds a Degree in Digital Electronics from DeVry Technical Institute.
