Nutrition for Performance

Long shifts, unpredictable schedules, overnight work, and limited food options can make healthy eating challenging in the policing profession. However, nutrition directly influences energy levels, cognitive performance, recovery, sleep quality, resilience, and overall well-being. This course examines the connection between nutrition and performance and provides realistic strategies that can be applied within the realities of policing.

Learners will explore nutrient-dense food choices, hydration practices, caffeine management, meal planning, and strategies for overcoming common nutrition challenges associated with shift work. The course emphasizes practical, sustainable habits that help support performance on duty, recovery off duty, and long-term health throughout a policing career.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how nutrition and hydration influence energy, focus, recovery, and job performance
  • Identify common nutrition challenges associated with policing, shift work, and unpredictable schedules
  • Apply practical strategies to make healthier food and drink choices during demanding shifts
