This conference workshop presentation discusses the rights of peace officers during the course of an internal affairs investigation.

Aaron Jones
Captain
Cincinnati Police Department
Captain Aaron R. Jones entered law enforcement in 1998 as a police officer with the Cincinnati Police Department. As an officer, he was assigned to Patrol, Violent Crimes Squad, General Vice Enforcement, and to the Regional Enforcement Narcotics Unit. In 2007, he we promoted to sergeant. As a sergeant he supervised patrol and served as an investigator in the Internal Investigations Section. In 2010 he was promoted to lieutenant. As a lieutenant he commanded patrol reliefs, the Internal Investigations Section, and the Training Unit. In 2015 he was promoted to captain. As a captain he has commanded the two largest Districts in Cincinnati. In January of 2021, he was assigned as the Police Training Section Commander
In 2007 Captain Jones earned a Masters of Science in Criminal Justice from Xavier University. In 2013 Captain Jones earned his Juris Doctorate from Salmon P. Chase School of Law at Northern Kentucky University. Captain Jones was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 2014. Since earning his law degree, Captain Jones has taken on an additional position as the Cincinnati Police Department’s Law Liaison. In that role, Captain Jones provides legal opinions to department members, reviews search warrants, provides legal updates, teaches law related in-service classes, teaches state mandated legal courses to new recruits, teaches liability issues related to FTO programs, assists with policy review/development, responds to monitor all critical use of force incidents involving department members, and responds to all major protest/civil disturbance incidents.
In 2014 Captain Jones became involved with the IACP Legal Officers Section and in 2017 was elected as an officer of the section (Member at Large.) In 2019, Captain Jones was elected to vice-chair of the IACP Legal Officers Section.
