Chris Hsiung

Chief

Mountain View, California, Police Department

Chris serves as Police Chief of the Mountain View Police Department, located in Silicon Valley, California. He is an internationally recognized speaker and author on the topics of digital communications strategy, crisis communications management, and progressive police leadership cultures.

 
Over his 27 year career, Chris has held a variety of investigative, tactical, and leadership roles, serving in every division in the organization. He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government program and has a master’s degree in eBusiness Management from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont,  CA. 
 
Chris also serves in several leadership positions on multiple boards, including committee member on the IACP's Professional Standards, Ethics, and Image Committee and board member on the Global Advisory Council for the Crisis Ready Institute. Previously, Chris served as president on the Government Social Media Leadership Council and two terms as a commissioner for the City of San Mateo Community Relations Commission.

Katie Nelson

Social Media and Public Relations Coordinator

Mountain View, California, Police Department

Katie Nelson is the Social Media and Public Relations Coordinator at the Mountain View Police Department in Northern California. Since 2015, she has managed the department’s social media accounts, focusing primarily on the department’s engagement efforts as well as serving as the agency’s public information officer. She presents across the country on social media best practices and crisis communication strategies. She also serves as an instructor with the California Office of Emergency Services, and is the secretary of the IACP PIO Section.
